Is there a college or university in the town?

More to add to the Austin Data Sheet:

"What Starts Here Changes the World."

Austin is home of the University of Texas at Austin, the largest institution of The University of Texas System. The University of Texas at Austin is a major research university home to more than 50,000 students, 2,900 faculty and 21,000 staff members.

The University of Texas at Austin is the 26th-best university in the world, according to a global ranking produced by the Times of London in its Oct. 28, 2005, edition. The university ranked 14th among the top North American public and private universities. The Times ranking was based, in part, on a survey of 2,375 research-active academics.

From the Austin Chamber of Commerce website:

"Highly rated elementary and secondary schools contribute to both quality of life and the beginnings of exceptional labor pools to come. Austin area households enjoy diverse options in education, including 29 public school districts, 17 charter schools and 69 private schools. The University of Texas and seven other public and private universities and colleges with a combined enrollment of over 118,000 provide an ample supply of well-educated workers to area employers. Within 200 miles of Austin, an additional 67 four-year colleges and universities enroll over 360,000 students. Nearly 40% of Austin area residents age 25 and over hold a bachelor's degree."

From the Art Institute of Austin's website:

"We are located in Austin, Texas, the state capital and fourth-largest city in the state. Our students are able to do imaginative thinking and studying in a city known for its creativity and originality. Austin is a vibrant spot that celebrates being cosmopolitan and unpretentious; high-tech and low-key; big city and college town. Austin was selected as the #2 Best Big City in "Best Places to Live" by Money magazine in 2006 and the #1 College Town by the Travel Channel. This is an independent, unassuming spot proven by the unofficial slogan locals use "Keep Austin Weird," referring to the spirit of the city and the vibrant network of locally-owned businesses. If the free spirited nature of the city isn't enough for students, the weather certainly is. Austin boasts 300 days of sunshine each year and offers plenty of outdoor activities to take advantage of those days."
