Canada Bound

Disclaimer: For those who wish to know every little detail, I have written this and succeeding posts. I in no way endorse the following posts as good reads--only the same mulled over travel comments.

"Does that mean you're headed to Canada, or that you're tied up by Canada?"

I crossed the border a few days ago. I think this makes trip number five. This is the first time to Ontario, though; which is funny because Ontario is on the other side of Niagara Falls and most people make it at least across the bridge. I never had. Actually I only went to the falls for the first time a few years ago. I've been twice now.

So, it was a bus ride, bus ride up to Canada. I was riding on Greyhound's competition to MegaBus, the Neon lines, which therefore has electricity and wireless. I left Port Authority at 8:45PM on the ten and half hour bus trip to Toronto. I like riding overnight. I feel less unproductive on the bus at night. If I travel during the day, it is hard to sit and enjoy the beauty for more than a few hours; I get sick reading or focusing intently; and, let's face it, being awake on a bus is not very comfortable. So, I choose the night. Another benefit is that you don't have to wait long at the border. Our bus made it to the border at around four in the morning. Everyone is happy at that time. Actually it wasn't bad. I was happy that they paid so very little attention to me and what I was planning to do in Canada. Customs agents can give you a really hard time even if all your ducks are in a row. They asked me what I was doing and where I was going. I was honest, even to the point of letting them know that I had never before met the people with whom I would be staying with, "I met them online." Apparently an American passport is in fact a golden ticket. They didn't stamp my passport book or run my passport through their system. They took a look and sent me on my way. I love having logistics kept at a bare minimum. I'm talking to you, United States. No, it's fine either way. I'm just playing. Anyway, I made it to Toronto in the province of Ontario around 6:30 in the morning on Wednesday.

I sat around in the bus station for about three hours trying to steal Wifi signals from the Neon and MegaBus coaches that intermittently parked near the waiting room. It was fun. From Toronto on out, to Peterborough and then to the farm, my mind and body, were gone. I was physically present, but for as much as I would liked to have gazed upon and taken in the scenery, I paced myself, only taking time to appreciate very little. Appreciating beauty and change can be overwhelming. I am like an information sponge sometimes, and being that way uses a lot of energy, puts me on thinking overload. This trip is all about relaxing, not taking in every bit of information that passes by me. I wanted to simply be for a while. It was nice. It is a practice I am continuing now that I am on the farm.

I think the biggest deal to speak about that happened over my travels was getting my bike here.
