Ryan and the Devil

So, I am beginning to really enjoy Ursula's place in my life. As you may have read from my post on the blog TinyFarmNetwork last week, she is an amazing host. This week Adventures with Ursula brings you Tarot card reading. (typing this post is made 99.99% sweeter by Usher's "Love in This Club".) Ursula--and we'll pause for a moment just to recognize how sweet her name is--came over to chew the baked ham Montana had pulled out of the freezer from winter's butchering, check out the nine baby piglets that were born this morning, and the foal that was born yesterday morning. As an added bonus, she brought her cards to help sort out the universe. I caught up with Montana and Ursula toward the end of our guests evening with us; they were nearly at the end of their visit, with just one more task: a tarot card reading. Ursula was kind enough to present her understanding of the practice and its meaning to her. To cut to the point: I shuffled the cards (Down Home Funk kept popping out as i did), split the deck, handed it to her, and sat back as she placed the cards on the table. Below is a very rough outline of the cards.

I'm not sure how much the general public is aware of how to read tarot cards or what they might mean. This deck was a unique one. Being from the seventies, it is not your average gypsy fortune teller's. Ursula is anything but average. Okay, so, the basic reading of the cards above could be something like...and remember, this reading is just for right now, in this moment,...so, the card in the center (Who am I?) represents me. I am crossed by "Passion". This represents that right now, I am a question (who am I?). Passion is what I do about who I am. "Wordless" describes my roots, where my emotional grounding is, i.e., I cannot express those emotions. Ball (no. 6) is what I have left behind. I've "dropped the ball" as it were. "Try to relax" is what has come out of this situation. "Dream" is where I am heading, going after a dream. However the outcome will be, (A) the universe does not work out like I am expecting (falls short of the dream), (B) I am fearful of people laughing out me, fearful that I will make mistakes, (C) I have the power to overcome it: I have the intuition about what I should do and I need only to follow it, and (D) the end result will be engagement, an open palm, where I have direct interaction with another. The final card tells me to "Do it now"; so, whatever the direction my intuition is leading me to act on my passion and go for my dream, I should take action right away. maybe that's what I did in coming to Canada? Maybe that's what you can do every day?

Who knows. It was fun, and eerily appropriate for my internal state.

very interesting. Pretty universal - following your passion. You wouldn't be in a situation where someone was reading tarot cards to you in Canada if you hadn't started doing that. Moving toward a dream is what everyone is hoping to do. (figuring out what the dream is IS the hard part huh? ) So interesting but not necessarily a big revelatioin. But Ursala is a mystery. Maybe you could enlighten us a bit.

Thanks for sharing. It helps all of us stuck in the trenches to hear from someone who is out in the sun for awhile. :)
